Contact Information =============================================================== 1. System Requirements =============================================================== DPO/DSA70000 series instruments with option ST to operate the serial trigger. DPO7000 series instruments with 2.5 Ghz or more can operate in decode mode only, with no serial trigger Control. Use of a Keyboard is highly recommended to manage TDSPTD input requirements and to bring it to the foreground if the Oscilloscope Application covers TDSPTD. 2. Contents of Distribution =============================================================== TDSPTD V3.0.1 Protocol and Trigger Decode Software (Option TDSPTD) > TDSPTD executable > SATA gen 1 (1.5Gb/Sec) Macro File > SATA gen 2 (3.0Gb/Sec) Macro File > PCI-Express gen 1 Macro File > Fibre Channel 2500 Macro File. > General 8B/10B encoding table 3. New Features =============================================================== TDSPTD V3.0.1 Defect fixed for TDSPTD application crash on exit. TDSPTD V3.0.0 Support for DPO/DSA70000 series and DPO7000 series scopes with 2.5 Ghz or more bandwidth TDSPTD V1.1.3 > Few defect fixes. 4. Known Problems =============================================================== TDSPTD should be used before running other apps, to setup and condition the trigger system. It should not be run in conjunction with other apps however, and un-reliable operation will be evident if run concurrently with other applications. When TDSPTD consumes all of its five time free trials it may present the user with a warning dialog box which comes up behind the Scope Application, in which case a keyboard and a Alt-Tab may be required to bring it to the foreground. Immediately upon launch of TDSPTD (for the first time) the Scope Application will be momentarily un-responsive while the application initializes (15 Seconds). Trigger placement associated with code error's will not be precisely placed and may be 2-3 symbols after the error condition occurred. On TDS6(12/15)4-C class instruments this is managed by using FW release 5.0.4 or higher. Users of TDSPTD on non TDS6(12/15)4-C class instruments should not use the recall default setup, as it will attempt to place the non C class instrument into a trigger mode which only C class instruments support. TDSPTD setup .ini files saved in V1.0.0 will not properly recall the Serial Standard in TDSPTD later than V1.1.0. After recall, select the Serial Standard and re-save the setup file. If files are added or deleted from C:\TekApplications\TDSPTD\Macros, then recall will again be affected. 5. Installation =============================================================== Normally, the TDSPTD application resides on the hard drive of your oscilloscope. If the application is not installed on hard disk perform the following steps to install the application from the Optional Applications Software on a Windows-Based Oscilloscope Compact disc (CD-ROM) If you have not installed TDSPTD, the install shield will walk the user through the multi-step process to install the product onto the hard-drive. 1. If the keyboard is not installed, connect it to the oscilloscope rear panel. 2. Power on the oscilloscope to start Windows. 3. Install the optional applications software CD in the CD-ROM reader of the oscilloscope. 4. The autorun utility will start the installation program. If the autorun utility doesn't start up automatically, browse to the CD-ROM and double-click the launch.exe. 5. Select the option 'Protocol Trigger and Decode'. 6. Select the option 'Install Now'. 7. You will need to enter the authorized Option Installation Key to enable the application. The key is specific to the serialized oscilloscope and options for which it was purchased. To enter the key number, follow these steps: a. If the oscilloscope powered on in the toolbar mode (default), select the Menu button (upper right corner of the display) to put the oscilloscope into menu-bar mode. In menu-bar mode you should see a PC-style menu across the top of the display. b. Go to the Utilities menu in the menu bar and select Option Installation. c. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter the alphanumeric key number exactly as it is printed on the rear-panel label. The TDSPTD application is now ready for use. Start the application through oscilloscope menu selection App->Protocol Trigger and Decode. 6. PC Installation. =============================================================== TDSPTD can also operate on a standalone PC in the following modes. Under either case the user will be required to manually install TekVISA on their PC, before installing TDSPTD. 1. Standalone operation with no access to a suitably TDSPTD keyed instrument. Follow steps outlined in 5 (Installation) above. One will manually have to launch the TDSPTD application through running the following batch file. C:\Program Files\TekApplications\TDSPTD\TDSPTD.bat Under this mode of operation the instrument control buttons in TDSPTD will not be present. The only decoding allowed in this mode of operation is file based inputs. 2. Remote operation with TekVISA based connection to a TDSPTD keyed instrument. The only difference in this mode of operation is that the instrument control panels will appear and one can run TDSPTD the same as if it was running on the network targeted instrument. One must configure the PC based VISA client to connect to device descript alias of GPIB8::1::INSTR in the VISA configuration panel. =============================================================== 7. Macro Files The TDSPTD installation will place five user editable macro files into c:\TekApplications\TDSPTD\Macros The files offered in TDSPTD V1.1 are for Fibre Channel 2500, SATA-I, SATA-II, PCI-Express and a user defined table for custom applications. These files may be edited with microsoft wordpad, to modify the trigger primitives, bitrate, encoding tables used by any standard of interest. Note: Users of version 1.0 TDSPTD will have a legacy SATA.csv and PCIE.csv still present after installing version 1.1 TDSPTD. If the user has modified those files, they should carry the changes forward to the appropriate SATA I SATA II or PCIE I macro files. The old SATA.csv and PCIE.csv should be then removed or moved to an alternate directory to remove them from the Macros area. =============================================================== 8.
